Study in UK Consultants in Bangalore: Visa, Fees and Graduate Route Changes for 2026 and 2027

Reviewed by Sneha Krishnamurthy, UK Study Counsellor, Easy Admissions Bangalore  |  Updated September 2026

If you searched for a study in UK consultants in Bangalore in the last few months, most of what you found was probably written before April 2026. That is a problem, because the UK Home Office has changed the visa fee, the English language bar, the maintenance fund amount and the Graduate Route timeline since then, and one more change to maintenance funds lands on 30 November 2026. A guide built on last year's numbers can cost a Bangalore family a visa refusal or a mistimed application.

This page is updated to the rules in force as of September 2026. It covers what changed, what changes next, which UK universities Bangalore students are actually getting into this cycle, what the whole journey costs, and how to tell a reliable study in UK consultant in Bangalore apart from one repeating outdated figures.

Why 2026 Is a Turning Point, Not Just Another Intake Year

Every year brings small fee revisions. 2026 is different. Five separate rule changes are landing within a twelve month window, and one of them, the cut to the Graduate Route, is tied to an application date rather than a course start date. That single fact changes how a Bangalore student should plan an intake, and almost no local consultant is explaining it clearly. We break it down in the next section.

One more thing worth saying plainly: if you are reading this in September 2026, the September 2026 intake has already begun at most universities. Your two realistic entry points from here are the January 2027 intake (applications generally open June to August 2026, with most deadlines falling between September and November 2026) or the September 2027 intake. Which one suits you depends heavily on the Graduate Route timing explained below, so read that section before you pick.

What Changed in UK Study Rules in 2026 (Full Breakdown)

Here is every confirmed change affecting Indian student visa applicants, with the exact date each one took or takes effect.

Infographic showing 5 UK study visa and Graduate Route changes for 2026 and 2027 affecting Bangalore students
Five confirmed UK rule changes for 2026 and 2027: visa fee, English requirement, maintenance funds, Graduate Route length and the new international student levy

1. Student visa application fee: up to £558

From 8 April 2026, the UK Student visa fee rose from £524 to £558 for every applicant, whether you apply from Bangalore or switch inside the UK. This applies regardless of intake, so budget the new figure even if an older blog post or a relative who studied in the UK a year ago quotes the old number.

2. English requirement: CEFR B2, not B1

Since 8 January 2026, degree level Student visa applicants must meet CEFR level B2, up from B1. On IELTS for UKVI, that means a minimum of 5.5 in every one of the four components, Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, not an overall average. A student with an excellent overall band but a 5.0 in Writing still falls short. Courses below degree level still ask for B1 (4.0 in each component). If your IELTS is borderline, this is the single most common reason applications now stall, so plan a retake early rather than late.

3. Maintenance funds: rising again on 30 November 2026

The current living cost requirement is £1,529 a month for courses in London and £1,171 a month outside London, capped at nine months. From 30 November 2026, these rise to £1,570 a month in London and £1,203 a month outside London. Funds must be held for 28 consecutive days, and the bank statement must be issued no more than 31 days before you submit your application. This 28 day rule is where most refusals on financial grounds happen, usually because of a balance dip during the holding period or a statement issued outside the window.

4. Immigration Health Surcharge: unchanged at £776 a year

The IHS was not touched in the April 2026 fee revision and stays at £776 per year of visa length for students. It is paid upfront as one lump sum, so a one year master's issued with a typical study plus buffer period often means paying for close to two years of IHS at the point of application.

The Graduate Route Deadline Every Bangalore Student Needs on Their Calendar

This is the change with the biggest financial and career impact, and the one competitors update the slowest. The Graduate Route (the UK's unsponsored post study work visa) is not being scrapped. Its length is changing based on the date you apply, not the date you enrol or graduate.

If you apply for the Graduate Route Duration you receive
On or before 31 December 2026 2 years (bachelor's and master's)
On or after 1 January 2027 18 months (bachelor's and master's)
Any date, PhD or doctoral graduates 3 years, unaffected by the cut

Here is the detail most guides miss. A one year master's starting in September 2026 typically finishes around September 2027, so the Graduate Route application usually happens well before the 31 December 2026 cutoff, securing the full 2 years. A one year master's starting in the January 2027 intake typically finishes around December 2027, which pushes the Graduate Route application into January 2028, after the cutoff, so that student receives 18 months, not 2 years, even though their course length is identical. The intake you choose now quietly decides how long you get to work in the UK after graduation.

Two more points worth knowing before you plan around this. The Graduate Route is an in country application only, so you must be physically inside the UK to apply, and it can be used only once. Neither of these has changed.

Best UK Universities for Bangalore Students in 2026 and 2027

Rankings move every year, and a consultant quoting last year's QS positions is a sign their content has not been refreshed. Here is where the leading UK universities stand in the QS World University Rankings 2026, which is the edition current for this application cycle.

University QS World Ranking 2026
Imperial College London#2
University of Oxford#4 (#1 in THE World Rankings 2026)
University of Cambridge#6
UCL (University College London)#9
King's College London#31
University of Edinburgh#34
University of Manchester#35
University of Bristol#51
LSE (London School of Economics)#56
University of Warwick#74

Rank is only one input. Bangalore students working in or targeting technology, data and engineering roles often get a stronger return from a mid ranked, Russell Group university with strong industry links and a lower cost of living than from a marginally higher ranked but far more expensive London institution. Course fit, city living cost and graduate employability in your target field usually matter more than moving up a handful of global rank positions.

What Studying in the UK Actually Costs From Bangalore in 2026

Tuition across UK universities ranges roughly from £11,000 to £38,000 a year depending on the course and institution, with one year master's and MBA programmes typically offering the fastest return for Indian students. On top of tuition, plan for the following, using the current 2026 figures:

  • Student visa fee: £558
  • Immigration Health Surcharge: £776 per year of visa length
  • Maintenance funds: £1,529 to £1,570 a month in London, or £1,171 to £1,203 a month outside London, for up to nine months
  • IELTS for UKVI and TB test: typically ₹15,000 to ₹20,000 combined

One more figure worth planning around even though it will not affect you yet: from August 2028, UK universities will pay a £925 per international student levy to the UK Treasury, introduced in the November 2025 Budget, and it is widely expected to feed through into higher tuition over time. It does not apply to September 2026 or September 2027 intakes, but if you are advising a younger sibling aiming for 2028 or later, factor it in now.

How to Choose a Reliable Study in UK Consultant in Bangalore

Bangalore has no shortage of overseas education agencies. What separates a reliable one from a directory listing usually shows up in specific, checkable details, not in marketing language. Watch for these patterns before you commit:

  • Outdated numbers presented as current. If a consultant still quotes £524 as the visa fee or B1 as the English requirement, their content, and possibly their advice, has not been updated since early 2026.
  • Blanket "no IELTS needed" promises. Some universities do waive IELTS for applicants with a fully English medium academic background, but this is course and university specific, not a rule that applies everywhere. A consultant offering it as a universal shortcut is oversimplifying a visa level English requirement that the Home Office, not the university, ultimately enforces.
  • No mention of the Graduate Route application date rule. If a consultant is not walking you through how your intake choice affects whether you get 2 years or 18 months of post study work, they have not read the current guidance.
  • Identical content across every city. Several Bangalore listings are the same generic template with the city name swapped in. Ask a specific question about your course and see how specific the answer is.
  • No clarity on fees for the consultancy itself. A trustworthy consultant tells you upfront, in writing, whether counselling, application support and visa filing are free or paid.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the UK student visa fee in 2026?

The UK Student visa application fee is £558, effective from 8 April 2026, up from the earlier £524. This applies to applications made from India as well as inside the UK.

How much money do I need to show for a UK student visa from Bangalore?

You need your first year's tuition fee as shown on your CAS letter, plus maintenance funds of £1,529 a month in London or £1,171 a month outside London, up to nine months. These maintenance figures rise to £1,570 and £1,203 respectively from 30 November 2026, so check the date of your intended application against these rates.

Will the UK Graduate Route still give 2 years in 2027?

Only if you apply for the Graduate Route on or before 31 December 2026. Applications submitted on or after 1 January 2027 receive 18 months for bachelor's and master's graduates. PhD graduates continue to receive 3 years regardless of application date.

What IELTS score do I need for a UK student visa in 2026?

For a degree level course, you need CEFR level B2, which on IELTS for UKVI means a minimum of 5.5 in each of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. This is a per component minimum, so a strong overall band with one weak section does not meet the requirement.

Which are the best UK universities for Bangalore students right now?

Based on the QS World University Rankings 2026, Imperial College London, Oxford, Cambridge, UCL and King's College London lead globally, while Manchester, Edinburgh, Bristol, LSE and Warwick are strong, more affordable choices with active Indian student communities and solid graduate outcomes.

Is September 2026 or January 2027 a better intake for a Bangalore student?

If you can still secure a September 2026 seat, it generally protects the full 2 year Graduate Route, since most students applying for the Graduate Route from that intake do so before the 31 December 2026 cutoff. A January 2027 start typically pushes your Graduate Route application into 2028, past the cutoff, which usually means 18 months instead of 2 years. Speak with a counsellor about your specific course length before deciding.

How do I choose the right study in UK consultant in Bangalore?

Check that their fee figures, English requirement and Graduate Route information match the current 2026 rules, ask whether counselling is free in writing, and ask a specific question about your own course to see how tailored the answer is rather than how polished the pitch is.

Can I get a UK student visa without IELTS?

Some universities waive IELTS for admission if your prior education was fully in English, but the Student visa itself is assessed against the Home Office CEFR B2 requirement, so most applicants still need an approved Secure English Language Test such as IELTS for UKVI, PTE Academic UKVI or LanguageCert. Treat "no IELTS" as course specific, not a universal rule.

How many hours can I work while studying in the UK?

Most Student visa holders on a degree level course can work up to 20 hours a week during term time and full time during official vacations, though the exact limit is set on your visa conditions and should always be confirmed on your own Biometric Residence Permit or eVisa status before you start working.

Is studying in the UK still worth it for Indian students in 2026?

For most students the answer is still yes, largely because of shorter course lengths (a one year master's versus two years in several other countries), globally recognised universities, and a Graduate Route that still offers meaningful post study work time if the intake is timed correctly. The rising costs and the Graduate Route cut make planning and timing more important than they were two years ago, which is exactly why working with an updated consultant matters.

Does Easy Admissions charge Bangalore students for UK counselling?

No. University shortlisting, application guidance and visa support through Easy Admissions are free for students. Call 1800 102 9968 or use the free eligibility calculator to get started.

Which parts of Bangalore does Easy Admissions serve for UK admissions?

Our Bangalore office supports students across the city, including Koramangala, Indiranagar, Whitefield, HSR Layout, Electronic City, Marathahalli and Jayanagar, with both in person and online counselling.
