Read This Before You Look at Any Step

Applying for the Dr. BR Ambedkar International Scholarship is not a single process. It is two processes running at the same time:

Track A: IGCCD Scholarship Portal

Register, fill application, submit eligibility documents, await shortlisting and approval from the Government of Karnataka

Track B: University Application (UK or Australia)

Apply to a recognised university, receive offer letter, submit CAS (UK) or CoE (Australia) — this offer letter is required to complete Track A

The single most common reason Karnataka students miss their intake window is running these tracks in sequence instead of simultaneously. Track A and Track B must run together from day one.

Why This Guide Exists

I am S. Krishnamurthy, Senior Study Abroad Counsellor at Easy Admissions in Bengaluru. The IGCCD portal for the Dr. BR Ambedkar International Scholarship is now open for 2026. Every week students call us having read something online that sent them in the wrong direction — they applied to the old PETC portal, or they waited for the scholarship to confirm before contacting universities, or they submitted documents with errors that caused delays.

This guide covers the correct, current process — step by step, for both tracks — based on how IGCCD actually operates in 2026 and what we see working for Karnataka SC/ST students applying for UK and Australia universities through Easy Admissions.

Before You Start: What You Must Have Ready

Do not open the IGCCD portal until the following are confirmed. Missing even one of these at the point of application causes delays that can cost you the intake cycle:

Check
What You Need
Why It Matters
Aadhaar linked to bank account
Scholarship disbursement is through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer). Aadhaar must be linked to your bank account or payments cannot be processed
Current SC/ST caste certificate
Must be issued by Karnataka revenue authority. Expired certificates, certificates from other states, or certificates without RD number cause immediate rejection at IGCCD
Income certificate — Karnataka
Issued by Karnataka revenue department. Must be current — certificates older than one year may be rejected
Karnataka domicile / residency proof
Permanent residence in Karnataka must be demonstrable. Aadhaar with Karnataka address is typically accepted
Undergraduate degree certificate and all mark sheets
All semester mark sheets plus final degree certificate. Provisional certificates are accepted if final is not yet issued
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 2 years beyond your intended course start date. Apply immediately if you do not have one — passport issuance takes 2 to 6 weeks
English language proof (IELTS/TOEFL/PTE or MOI letter)
Required for university application, not IGCCD portal itself. IELTS 6.0 to 7.0 is typically required for UK and Australia PG programs. MOI letter possible for English-medium UG graduates

Below is the full process mapped out. The left column is Track A (IGCCD scholarship). The right column is Track B (university application). Both begin on the same day.

Phase 1 — Start Both Tracks on the Same Day

Track A: IGCCD Portal

Step 1. Visit igccd.karnataka.gov.in. Look for the Dr. BR Ambedkar International Scholarship section and click on the new registration or fresh application link.

Step 2. Register using your Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Note your login credentials immediately.

Step 3. Begin filling your personal details, academic background, and community information. Save frequently — do not complete in one session if the portal times out.

Track B: University Application

Step 1. Contact Easy Admissions for an immediate eligibility and profile assessment. This call determines which UK or Australia universities are realistic for your academic profile and still accessible for September 2026.

Step 2. Receive your university shortlist within 24 hours of the call. Confirm your course and institution preference.

Phase 2 — Document Preparation and Application Submission

Track A: IGCCD Portal

Step 4. Scan and upload all eligibility documents: Aadhaar, caste certificate, income certificate, domicile proof, degree certificate, all mark sheets, passport.

Step 5. Double-check that every name, date, and number entered in the portal exactly matches your documents. IGCCD cross-verifies all entries against originals. A single mismatch in your name spelling or certificate number will flag your application for correction and add weeks to processing.

Step 6. Submit the application. Download and save your application acknowledgement number immediately.

Track B: University Application

Step 3. Easy Admissions prepares your Statement of Purpose (SOP), coordinates your Letters of Recommendation (LOR), and compiles your application package for the shortlisted UK or Australia universities.

Step 4. Application submitted directly to the university through Easy Admissions' pipeline. Conditional offer letter typically arrives within 2 to 4 weeks of a complete submission.

Phase 3 — Offer Letter Received: Completing Track A

Track A: IGCCD Portal

Step 7. Once the university offer letter arrives (from Track B), upload it to your IGCCD application immediately. This is the final mandatory document that completes your scholarship application.

Step 8. IGCCD reviews your complete application. Shortlisted candidates receive a communication for document verification or interview. Respond promptly — delays at this stage can affect your scholarship confirmation timeline.

Track B: University Application

Step 5. Conditional offer letter received. Easy Admissions assists with fulfilling any outstanding conditions — typically final mark sheets, English proficiency, or fee deposit waiver for scholarship students.

Step 6. Unconditional offer letter and CAS (UK) or CoE (Australia) issued. This document is now uploaded to Track A.

Phase 4 — Scholarship Confirmed: Visa and Pre-Departure

Step 9. IGCCD confirms scholarship approval and initiates disbursement process. The first tuition payment tranche is typically sent directly to the university. Maintenance allowance is disbursed to your Aadhaar-linked bank account.

Step 10. Apply for your UK Student Visa or Australia Student Visa (subclass 500). Easy Admissions assists with the full visa documentation package including financial evidence, accommodation proof, and CAS/CoE submission.

Step 11. Pre-departure briefing, insurance, accommodation arrangement, and travel. Easy Admissions stays with you through departure — we do not hand off at offer letter stage.

The 6 Errors That Cause Karnataka Students to Lose Their Application

These are the most common mistakes we see at Easy Admissions, and every one of them is avoidable:

1

Running Track A and Track B in sequence, not simultaneously

Waiting for the scholarship to confirm before contacting universities, or waiting for a university offer before starting IGCCD registration. Both take weeks. Running them sequentially adds 6 to 10 weeks to your timeline and typically kills the intake cycle.

2

Applying on the old PETC portal

The old Prabhuddha Overseas Scholarship used petc.kar.nic.in. That portal is outdated. The current application for the Dr. BR Ambedkar International Scholarship goes through IGCCD at igccd.karnataka.gov.in. Applications submitted anywhere else will not be processed.

3

Name mismatch between documents and portal entries

If your name is entered as "Priya S Kumar" in the portal but your caste certificate says "S. Priya Kumar", IGCCD will flag a discrepancy. Every entry must match every document exactly — including initials, spellings, and name order. Check this before submitting.

4

Aadhaar not linked to bank account before applying

Scholarship disbursement is through DBT. If your Aadhaar is not linked to your bank account at the time of application, your application can be processed and approved but the money cannot be transferred. This link must be active before you submit.

5

Submitting an expired caste or income certificate

Caste certificates older than a specified period and income certificates from previous financial years are commonly rejected at IGCCD. Renew these before applying if they are more than 12 months old. The renewal process from Karnataka revenue offices takes 2 to 4 weeks — start immediately.

6

Choosing a university without verifying IGCCD recognition

Not every foreign university is recognised under the IGCCD scholarship guidelines. A student who independently selects a university, receives an offer letter, and then finds the institution is not accepted by IGCCD has wasted the most critical weeks of the application window. Easy Admissions verifies recognition before any university application is submitted.

Realistic Timeline for September 2026 Intake

Week
Track A (IGCCD)
Track B (University)
Week 1
Portal registration, begin document collection
Profile assessment with Easy Admissions, university shortlist received
Week 2
Upload documents, complete application form, submit
SOP drafted, LOR coordinated, application submitted to university
Week 3 to 5
Application under IGCCD review. Respond to any clarifications promptly
Conditional offer letter received from university (typically 2 to 4 weeks)
Week 5 to 7
Upload offer letter to IGCCD portal. Shortlisting and verification process begins
Conditions fulfilled, unconditional offer and CAS/CoE issued
Week 7 to 10
Scholarship approval confirmed. Disbursement process initiated by IGCCD
Visa application submitted with scholarship confirmation + CAS/CoE
Week 10 to 12
Scholarship disbursement to university
Visa received. Pre-departure preparation. Departure for September 2026 intake.

On this timeline: A student who contacts Easy Admissions by the end of June 2026 and has all documents ready can realistically achieve a September 2026 departure. Every week of delay compresses the visa buffer and increases risk. Call 1800 102 9968 today if you have not started.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where exactly do I apply for the Dr. BR Ambedkar scholarship in 2026?

The current application portal is IGCCD Karnataka at igccd.karnataka.gov.in. Do not apply on the old PETC portal (petc.kar.nic.in) which handled the previous Prabhuddha Overseas Scholarship. Applications on the old portal will not be considered for the current scheme.

Do I need the university offer letter before applying to IGCCD?

No — and this is a critical point most students misunderstand. You can start and partially complete your IGCCD application without the offer letter. You should begin the IGCCD registration immediately. The offer letter is required to finalise and complete the scholarship application — but you do not need it to start. Both tracks run simultaneously.

How long does IGCCD take to process the application after submission?

Processing time varies but typically runs 4 to 8 weeks from complete application submission (including offer letter). Incomplete applications, document mismatches, or missing Aadhaar-bank linkage cause additional delays. Complete applications with all documents correct at time of submission are processed significantly faster.

Can I apply if I have not yet received my final degree certificate?

Yes. A provisional degree certificate is accepted in place of the final degree certificate for the purpose of IGCCD application, provided the final results are declared and mark sheets are available. Contact IGCCD or Easy Admissions to confirm the current position for your specific situation.

What happens if IGCCD rejects my application?

Rejections are typically issued with a reason — document mismatch, incomplete information, or ineligibility. In most cases, eligible applicants who receive a rejection can correct and resubmit, though this adds significant time. The best prevention is to have your application reviewed by Easy Admissions before submission. Call 1800 102 9968 and we will go through your application with you before it is submitted.
